Evaluation Q2

A film distributor is responsible for the marketing side of the film making process. The distributor is responsible for setting a release date for the film and to let the audience know when it's going to be coming out. Not only are they responsible for the release date of the film, but they are also responsible for the advertisements and marketing - for advertisements they are relied for where they put the adverts and there are many different types of ways to do this. You can place an advert on prime time TV so you're able to get the highest views and for the campaign to be noticeable, radio, various websites such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat etc. On various social media accounts you can make your own page dedicated to the film and advertisements for the audience to interact with. Distributors sign a formal contract with the producer, sales agent/studio. The contract also includes and allows the licence the film for online viewing and UK broadcasters. When people are wanting to make new films, the distributors will look for specific features that will help sell it to the audience. The distributors opinion on a film's marketability should be sought before it goes into production and the larger the production budget the more likely a film distributor is going to be signed up for it. The film distribution is the process of making a more available viewing as the audience.
For example Sinister 2 has their own Facebook page advertising their new sequel from their first successful film Sinister. The other ways to advertise a film is by using the outdoor space for example; billboards, taxis, the side of buses, the underground tube stations, posters in shop windows, cardboard cut outs in book or film shops, bus stop posters etc. Distributors also need to be able to advertise the release of when the film is going become home screening by DVD and Blu Ray. They can advertise this they way the advertised the trailers and the posters, by online social media, TV's radios, buses etc. Occasionally supermarket stores such as Tesco, Asda, Morrison's etc. will announce that they have the film coming into store on Blue ray and DVD on the day or soon.

The new viral film that has been released recently is called Don't Breathe. This film is a horror genre movie and is distributed by Sony Pictures Entertainment and has the creators from the film Evil Dead which is again another successful horror film. Don't Breathe is a certificate 15 which is the same as my group horror trailer. The reason to why its a 15 is because its more of a jump scare film rather than loads of blood and gore. This film is targeted towards more 15-25 year olds purely because if the older generation watched this film they wouldn't be impressed and it would be to their standard of a 'horror film'. The older generation would expect a horror film to be blood, guts and gore everywhere which is not what this film is about. The distributors of this film first released a teaser poster which is the right hand side poster which is of a close up of her hands crossed over her mouth with blood against the side of her forearm. This film would've been advertised on the platforms that I have already mentioned which is social media, TV, cinemas, billboards, busses, bus stops, poster etc.
